The Kingsley Airbridge story is a classic, but unhappily the author did not live to finish it, his untimely death in Australia on 19 July 1924, at the age of 39, coming when he was still on the threshold of the great enterprise to which he had given the best years of his life. Thirteen years after his death his widow, Ruby, who had been devoted and energetic helpmate, took up the threads, and in Pinjarra: The building of a Farm School told of the realization of his 'Vision Splendid' in the establishment of the Airbridge Farm Schools in Western Australia.

While still a lad at Umtali, Kingsley began to write poetry and these endeavors, with more numerous outpourings written at Oxford, were published in Veld Verse and Other Lines.

To mark the 50th anniversary of his death on 19 July 1974, and to honor a name that is highly revered in this country, Kingsley Fairbridge's Autobiography and Veld Verse have been brought together in this new volume, and included in the series dedicated to the Pioneers of Rhodesia.
