Product Details

Wharton (Henry Marvin)

413 pages. Hardback. Frontispiece. Blue vertical-rib-grain cloth with gold, red, blue & white stamping on front and spine. Rather unusual stamping on back of lines, wording emblems more consistence with a spine than a back cover. Likewise inside the front cover is a leather piece with the same format. Endpapers printed with green floral pattern. Cover is faded and worn and is parting from the contents.

There was a version published that had a more traditional cover with the spine being the same as that which is affixed inside the front cover, suggesting this book is a later edition.

Defacing to inside both covers. Looks like some child with a pencil & crayon used the book for their pleasure.

Descriptive text with photos. Binding is coming loose. Pages are browning with age. Fair condition.

WAR SONGS AND POEMS OF THE SOUTHERN CONFEDERACY, 1861-1865. A collection of the most popular and impressive songs and poems of war times, dear to every southern heart

The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865) was a civil war in the United States between the Union ("the North") and the Confederacy ("the South"), which was formed in 1861 by states that had seceded from the Union to preserve African American slavery, which they saw as threatened because of the election of Abraham Lincoln and the growing abolitionist movement in the North

Self described as "This superb volume contains a priceless collection of all the Southern Poems and War Songs written and sung in praise of the Confederacy and her heroic men during the stirring days of her early victories, and reflecting also the pathos and misery which came with the loss of her lofty aspirations, and accompanied by the music to which they were sung"

Ends with a Roll of Confederate States.
